ALVR 6-30-03 to 3-5-04

March 29, 2008

ALVR was a great long that turned in a very impressive gain of 314%-318% (depending on your fill) in eight months and one week. It was very easy holding this stock as it moved higher as the stock NEVER traded below the 50 day moving average. Only the best of the best ‘monster stocks’ can do that. That is why my second and third purchases were very large compared to my first one. From the second and third large longs to the top, the stock gained 177% in six months and 160% in five months and one-and-a-half weeks. 2003 as you can tell was unlike any year I still have ever seen as a rising tide lifted ALL boats.

Great pick, you obviously made a ton of money on this one. I’m trying to learn your techniques, so I went back to look at some of the charts of ALVR in more detail. On 3/31/03, the stock had a breakout from a nice, tight 4-month base on high volume, and again on 4/16-17/03. What made you wait until June to buy the stock?

The stock wasn’t ready. It was still in a FREAKING DOWNTREND coming off the bottom. WE NEVER GO LONG STOCKS LIKE THIS. DOES THAT MOVE LOOK LIKE ANYTHING!!! YOU SEE IN ANY OF MY OTHER PAST WINNERS.

Was the price over the 50 DMA with the 50 DMA over the 200 DMA?

Come on man! Why do I get asked such easy questions?

This question should NEVER have been asked, if you actually went back and looked at my past winners and read my FAQ on THIS SITE! Please, spend more time on this site. :)

IT CLEARLY STATES ON THIS SITE IN DETAIL OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER THAT I ONLY BUY STOCKS OVER THE 50 DMA WITH THE 50 DMA OVER THE 200 DMA.

Alright, there are quite a few newbies asking questions, and I’m as bad as anyone. Of course, the pros are not going to be on here asking you questions Joshua so I guess it comes with the territory!

Here’s something I started a couple of nights ago and I think it’s pretty useful for newbies.

1. Cover most of the screen and peek only at the name and buy date of a big winner, nothing else.
2. Open Telechart, set the date first and then enter the stock symbol on a daily chart. You’re now at Joshua’s buy point.
3. Track the stock daily by hitting the “]” key.
4. Write down some partial sells based on IBD topping criteria and a final sell point.
5. Check what you came up with versus Joshua’s plots.

If you’re anything like me, your performance will suck on the first few. But I found I was getting better as I went along.
